What’s Your Seat Style?

October 18, 2011

When sofa shopping, it is easy to become distracted by the color, fabric, and overall style of a sofa. An often-overlooked consideration is the type of seat cushion. Do you prefer a single-cushion, a two-cushion or a three-cushion sofa? A single cushion is best for maximum seating and requires less straightening, although it does not allow you to move cushions around for extended use. A two-cushion sofa, my least favorite, is only comfortable for two people. The center seat is not really a seat, but a space you are trying to straddle. The three-cushion sofa is comfortable for three people and many styles allow for flipping or moving cushions around. In addition, having more cushions creates more welt, if contrasting welt, it can be a stronger design element on this style of sofa. The style that works best for you depends on how you live. How many people are you trying to seat? Do you lounge on the sofa to watch TV or do you sit and read? If you don’t use the sofa that much, then you can simply choose the one that appeals to your aesthetic style!
